Nineteen-year-old Joshua Butler's cheekbone was shattered, his left eye blackened, and head split open.

It is believed he was beaten senseless by a brute brandishing a baseball bat.

Yesterday Joshua, of Mount Hill, Pembroke, was recovering in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Doctors are waiting for his swelling to go down before operating on his cheekbone.

The teenager has little recollection of Sunday night's mindless attack, which brought a night on the town to a bloody end.

He claims he was assaulted in The Spinning Wheel night spot in Court Street, after going there with his cousin.

"I remember this man said he wanted to talk to me. Then I must have blacked out,'' he told The Royal Gazette yesterday.

Joshua's sister, Miss Malaika Butler, said she found her brother lying outside the night spot as if he had been dumped there.

"I just happened to be passing, and I saw this person lying there. I didn't know it was my brother.

"His face was completely covered in blood. No one seemed to be helping him.'' Miss Butler said she took her unconscious brother to hospital.

Doctors stitched up Joshua's cheekbone, and also the back of his head in two places.

"I keep having headaches, and feel really sore. Last night I could only sleep in fits and starts,'' said Joshua, who works for Magazine Distributors.

"I expect I will be in hospital until the end of the week.'' Joshua said he knew his attacker and gave a statement to Police yesterday.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale yesterday said he was not in a position to comment on the incident.

No-one from the Spinning Wheel was yesterday available for comment.
