Rams slam Raiders to take over at top

Despite the distractions of the FA Cup there was plenty of action in the Commercial League over the weekend with North Village Rams going top of the A Division after a 6-3 win over PHC who staged a late but doomed rally.

Two goals by Ross Lambe and one from Maceo Dill put Rams in the driving seat while ?goal-a-game? man Mark Wade pulled one back before the break.

Lambe got two more and another came from the boot of BFA youth director Kenny Thompson but with only eight minutes remaining Raiders staged a comeback, scoring two goals in four minutes.

National coach Kyle Lightbourne?s header from a corner seemed to give Raiders a lift and minutes later Sheridian (Baldy) Ming scored but Raiders? spirited comeback was a case of too little too late and Rams hung on for a deserved three points.

Tuff Dogs got back to winning ways and shot up to second place with a 5-0 drubbing of Devonshire Lions in a match marred by three sending-offs.

Two goals apiece from Gladwyn Smith and Jamal Lovell and one from Reed Gaglio sealed Dogs? victory.

Lions were awarded a penalty in the first half taken by Trevor Smith and saved by Stephen Pett. Smith then followed through, kicking Pett in the back of the head. Pett?s brother, Chris, pushed Smith to the ground and the pair fought.

Referee Deroy Butterfield said both players faced possible further disciplinary action from the BFA.

Butterfield noted that kicking a player in the head was a serious offence while he reported that Chris Pett had sworn at him after the game.

A second Lions player, Arnold Adams, was sent off late in the second half for a last-man tackle.

B Division runaway leaders Dandy Town Roots, who are used to scoring double figures every week, were disappointed to merely pick up a 3-0 walkover win after Wolves failed to show for their make-up fixture.

Manager Lloyd Christopher said: ?It seems amazing Roots were denied for so long entry into the Commercial Division as not one player showed up for Wolves. Roots? first game was against Prison Officers, and they could not field 11 players.

Devonshire All-Stars went 2-0 up against Boulevard only to draw 2-2.

All-Stars scored both their goals in the first half with Gerald Bean on target from the spot after a foul on Mark (Beaver) Ray. Ray then slotted home after some clinical football that left Boulevard flat-footed.

Boulevard were reduced to ten men in the first half but came back in the second with some counter attacking plays that caught Colts napping. A share of the points moved Boulevard up to second place in the table.

Prison Officers picked up their first win of the season and got off the bottom of the table with a 3-2 triumph over Pest Control.

Officers went 3-0 up in the first half with a strike from Reginald Codrington and a brace from Dwight Richards while Christian Boney replied for Pest Control before the break. Anthony Francis added another late on but it was too late to save his side from their third straight defeat.
