Two men faced charges at Supreme Court on Thursday over separate shootings.

Quincy Brangman, 31, is charged with attempting to murder Ireland Rangers football player Nathan Darrell, 23, by shooting him near his home in Kitchener Close, Sandys on February 13.

Brangman, of Cook's Hill Road in Sandys, pleaded not guilty and his trial was fixed for September 7. He was remanded into custody until then.

Also before the court in a separate shooting case was Anthony Swan, 22, of Cut Road, St. George's. He's charged with wounding Raymond Rawlins, 48, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm by shooting at him on Court Street, Pembroke, last December 16.

Swan is also charged with possessing a gun and ammunition, unlawfully discharging a firearm, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and aggravated taking of a motorcycle before driving it dangerously.

Swan pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was remanded into custody until his trial on September 7.

A number of other cases also came before the court during the monthly arraignment session.

Justin Denbrook, 27, Roger Lightbourne Sr., 42 and Juanae Crockwell, 23, are charged with conspiring to steal $60,000 in cash from the Bank of Butterfield.

No information about the alleged offence, which is said to have taken place between December 26, 2007 and January 1, 2008, was given in court.

Lightbourne Sr., who had been on bail, did not turn up to be arraigned. Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney said the person who was the surety for his bail claimed he'd been given permission by the Police and DPP to leave the Island.

However, Chief Justice Richard Ground said he'd not given any approval for Lightbourne Sr., of Tommy Fox Road in St. David's, to miss the hearing even though he is the "highest authority" in the case.

He arranged for the matter to be discussed in a non-public hearing in his chambers later in the day, at the request of Lightbourne's lawyer, Elizabeth Christopher. The outcome was that a warrant was issued for Lightbourne Sr.'s arrest.

Meanwhile, the charge was put to the other two defendants. Crockwell, of Seymour Farm Road, Southampton, and Denbrook, of Sink Road, St. David's both pleaded not guilty and a trial date was fixed for August 9.

A 50-year-old HIV-positive man from St. David's was charged with sexually assaulting a woman by doing a sexual act with her without telling her he had the disease. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty and was bailed until his trial begins on April 19.

Kenneth Butterfield, 32 and Kyle Ingham 24, from Hamilton Parish and Dennis Wright, 28, from Sandys are charged with conspiring to import cannabis and cocaine. The plot is alleged to have been hatched between an unknown date and November 3, 2008.

The trio pleaded not guilty and were bailed.

Another man, Derek Burchall, 43, of Sandys, is also charged with plotting to import drugs in a separate case. He's alleged to have conspired to import cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis between an unknown date and July 26, 2007. Burchall also pleaded not guilty and his trial was set for June 22. He was granted bail in the meantime.

Meanwhile Corvin Ratteray, 36, of Abbott's Road, Hamilton Parish, is accused of obtaining $1,550 from Greer Valasse by falsely representing that he was entitled to rent an apartment in Middle Road, Warwick. No further information was given about the charge. Ratteray pleaded not guilty and was bailed.

Unless otherwise stated, all the defendants are due back at court for the next arraignments session on May 3.
