Village Rams let rip in 11-goal rout
North Village Rams continue to perform a fine acting job in their role as the division's top guns.
Arch rivals Somerset Extros -- another side not anxious to move up -- became the Rams' latest victims, feeling the full brunt of an aged yet potent attack during an 11-3 thrashing at Bernard Park on Saturday that allowed Village to maintain a two point lead over the chasing pack.
Former First Division stars Danny Rogers and Wendell (Woolly) Baxter each scorched hat-tricks against the West Enders, while Garrett (Punchy) Dill added two and Milgrove Romaine, Richard Robinson and Paul Trott one apiece.
Gladstone Robinson, Josef Gooden and Douglas Durrant each tallied for Extros.
Mariners, currently on 13 points and a team that would dearly love to be promoted, maintained their charge with a 5-0 pounding of hapless Valley as Craig Dixon scored twice and was aided by single strikes from Richard Correia, Dennis Pimental and Frank Massaflor, who scored on his debut.
Likewise, St. George's dished out plenty of punishment at the expense of Belco, registering a 5-0 victory as James Pace and Cal Raynor each netted twice, while Dale Thompson scored the other.
Dennis Brown was the day's top marksman with four goals during Prison Officers' 6-3 hammering of Devonshire Lions. Aiding Brown were Mike Lambe and Ed Lightbourne.
Not to be left out were Bermuda Pest Control, who recorded their biggest win to date with a 7-3 mauling of Wolves Pack.
Bruno Difrancescantonio notched a hat-trick for the winners while Roberto Splendour, Eugene Simmons, Dwight James and Edson Difrancescantonio also got on the scoresheet. For Pack Terry Grant, Gary Peniston and Sammy Lambe all scored.
In Group A, BAA Wanderers surged to a three point advantage in their quest for the league crown while riding the tails of a crucial 3-2 victory against second placed Forties.
Stuart Drake tallied twice and Paul Mottrem once to offset strikes from Adrian Munnery and Carlos Lee of Forties. BAA have 13 points compared to 10 for Forties.
Defending champions Robin Hood moved from fifth into sole possession of third place, but still five points adrift of the leaders, after destroying Island Rangers 4-0 as Alan Mooney scorched a hat-trick and Tim Perry added one.
Meanwhile, Lobster Pot joined three others on seven points with an easy 5-2 triumph against cellar dwellers Exiles.
Tony Smith put paid to Exiles' chances with a first-half hat-trick and was assisted later on by Gladstone Grant and Jim Brown. Craig Tyrell and Alan Johnson were on the mark for the losers.
Remaining matches witnessed Devonshire Colts blank Fire Service 5-0, as James Tweed, Harrison Trott, John Corday, Dwayne Cox and Larry Benjamin scored, while a lone strike from Johnny Nusum was enough to earn Spinning Wheel a 1-0 win over KPMG.
