Ten scholarships, valued at $10,000 each, have been handed out under the Public Service Bursary Scheme.

Government reform minister Lovitta Foggo said the move would help young Bermudians fill essential technical and professional posts within the public service.

Ms Foggo said four of the scholarships have gone to new recipients: Destynie Mallory, Shuntelle Paynter, Jodi Ming and Kobe Richardson.

Six will continue as bursary students: Doreen Burgess, Andesha Busby, Tabia Butterfield, Tenneil Ratteray, Malik Richards and Desiree Waldron.

Ms Foggo told the House of Assembly: “While elected officials are often the most visible figures within Government, the majority of the functions are carried out by highly trained and skilled technical officers.

“One of the aims of this Government is to change the perception of careers in the public service. Our goal is to align the workforce with our vision.

“The Government is looking for fresh ideas and innovative viewpoints. We are seeking to become the employer of choice.

“Our aim is to attract, develop, motivate, and retain a quality talent pool that is committed to the highest standards of excellence.”
