Jones dismisses end of season Twenty20
Willow Cuts have a great chance to move clear of everyone in their division when the Lindo's Twenty20 tournament continues this weekend.
Cuts, who got off to a winning start in their opening match against Warwick at home, play Bailey's Bay at Sea Breeze Oval and the Commercial XI at St. John's Field today and tomorrow respectively, and with wins in both games the side would be within touching distance of the semi-finals.
Cuts all-rounder Malachi Jones, however, has played down the importance of the club making a sustained run in the competition, having admitted that the team have accomplished all of their goals set for the season.
"We aren't putting too much into the tournament in terms of training and so forth, considering it is the end of the season," said Jones. "Going into the season we wanted to keep our status and really make a push for the BELCO Cup spots that can really make us a household name.
"The team managed to get both of these done so we are going to enjoy the shorter version and have fun.
"We would like to win but we won't make a big deal out of if we don't make it to the next round.
"It is more of a 'see how it goes type of thing' opposed to we need to win this to make our season a success."
Jones will miss tomorrow's showdown with the Commercial League XI along with Kevon Fubler, both of whom are travelling with the senior national team to Canada, while the injured Chris Douglas is doubtful.
And with the curtain coming down on the season at the end of the tournament, Jones believes his side, like most others, are giving their fringe players a chance to shine.
"This competition, we are taking it as it comes because we will be missing key players such as myself and Kevon who are going on tour with the senior national team, as well as Chris who is injured.
"It is a fun tournament to play in, and like many of the other teams involved, we are looking to enjoy the end of the season and give those who didn't really get to play a chance to go out and play."
Today and tomorrow's action will see double headers across the Island with some interesting match ups on the cards.

The BCB U-19 play Commercial XI and Western Stars play St. David's at Southampton Oval, while Leg Trappers play Flatts and St. George's lock horns with PHC at Wellington Oval.
