One CAC track team left the Island yesterday and another will depart next Tuesday as overseas competition keeps the Island’s track athletes busy over the summer.The team of Zekiah Lewis, Mikaela Outerbridge, Sean Tatem, Robert Thomas, Symir Lowe-Darrell, Syriah Lottimore, Elisha Darrell and Sean Tucker, accompanied by officials Roderika Freeman and Devoe Whaley, left yesterday morning for Curacao to compete in the CAC Age Group Championships which begin today.A seven-member team will represent the Island in the CAC Senior Championships in Morelia, Mexico from July 5 to 7. The team, led by manager Freddie Evans and national coach Troy Douglas, will leave for Mexico on Tuesday.Olympic long jumper Arantxa King, sprinter Tre Houston, heptathlon Shianne Smith, middle distance runners Aaron Evans, Ashley Berry and Tamika Williams and triple jumper Jasmine Brunson will make up the Bermuda senior team.Houston will compete in the 100 and 200 metres, Evans in the 800 metres, Berry in the 3,000 steeplechase and Williams in the 1,500 metres.According to Bermuda National Athletics Association president Donna Watson, Tyrone Smith has been invited to several Europeans meets and will not be available to defend his title at the CAC Championships.“Tyrone is working very hard to make the finals and medal at the IAAF World Championships with him already reaching the ‘B’ qualifying standard,” said Watson.“Tre, Aaron, Arantxa and Shianne will be using these championships with the hope of reaching the standard for the IAAF World Championships.Watson will travel with the Bermuda athletes, but not in the capacity of president of the BNAA.“I have been asked to be the Organisational Delegate for the Championships,” she revealed.“The role is to oversee and make sure that the accommodations, transportation, organisation, food and ceremonies, everything other than the running of the meet, all run smoothly.”
