Spirits and champagne bottles smashed in delivery truck mishap

Almost 100 bottles of “premium spirits and champagne” crashed onto the ground as a delivery truck was going around a bend in the road in Hamilton Parish.The driver and staff on the Goslings truck were uninjured in the incident yesterday morning on North Shore Road at the junction with Old Road.The mishap occurred at around 8.30am.A Goslings spokesman confirmed: “In making a delivery to Bermuda Duty Free shops at the airport, a pallet of spirits shifted while our Gosling’s truck was making the corner on North Shore by the intersection with Old Road.“About 18 cases of spirits and wines spilled onto the road resulting in the loss of 91 bottles of premium spirits and champagne.”HMS Customs was notified and the scene was cleaned up by the driver, two helpers, a warehouse manager and “one of the company’s managing directors, who happened to be in the vicinity”.“Gosling’s would like to thank the police and a member of the public who kindly assisted in directing traffic during the cleanup,” he added.“A preliminary report is being compiled for management which will make recommendations to tighten up our safety requirements.”
