The winners of the Bank of Butterfield’s Summer Student Employment Programme Challenge have been named.

A nine-strong team of students, who spent the summer working with Somersfield Academy — Montessori Trust, was chosen as the top team.

The winning team was Natasha Butterfield, Adrian Levine, Ashante Hart, Kyle Hamilton, James Howard, Taylor Ashley Bean, Tatyana Ortiz, Sudan Furbert and Quaejah Cox.

This year’s Challenge saw teams of Butterfield Summer Students assigned to one of four local charities where they were tasked with developing business proposals and presentations to help address business issues.

“This year’s project saw the students put a lot of thought and hard work into their business plans that will serve the non-profit organisations well in re-focusing their business efforts,” McKeisha Smith, Butterfield’s vice president of human resources for Bermuda and Cayman, said.

“The end products from all the teams were great quality.”

The Centre on Philanthropy assisted with the selection of the four charities, which included Somersfield Academy, Tomorrows Voices, St David’s Historical Society and Phenomenal People.

A cheque for $1,650 was presented to the Montessori Trust, which included the funds raised from a denim day and a $1,000 donation from Butterfield.

Jennifer Pitcher, of the Centre of Philanthropy, said the Centre was delighted to have been part of the programme. She added: “We congratulate the Summer Students for their dedication to working together on business proposals for four deserving non-profits which will ultimately benefit our community.”
