A former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper will visit the island next month to host two courses aimed at developing specialist goalkeeper coaches.

Jim Stewart, who won two caps for his country, will oversee Scottish Football Association Level 1 and Level 2 goalkeeper courses, which includes classroom and on-field sessions, from September 11 to 16.

The former Scotland, Rangers and Nottingham Forest goalkeeper coach, will be among several Scottish coaches travelling to Bermuda as part of a relationship between the Bermuda Football Coaches Association and the SFA.

Richard Todd, the BFCA president, said: “The BFCA has identified the goalkeeper coach, and specific goalkeeper coach education, as being a deficient area of technical training in Bermuda, and throughout the various programming levels of our football.

“With the Scottish FA due back on island in September to deliver the SFA Introductory course for the candidates preparing to travel to Scotland in October for the Uefa B license, we have been able to secure experienced goalkeeper coach Jim Stewart to travel as a part of the staff and provide this opportunity to our local coaches.”

It is hoped the pair of goalkeeper courses will create a pathway for successful candidates to move towards obtaining the Uefa Goalkeeping A Licence.

The BFCA will provide financial support for each of the BFA club affiliates, who have been asked to identify one candidate to enrol on the courses, while the BFA National Academy has two spots reserved.

The maximum capacity for the courses will be 24 candidates.
