Nichola Lynas, wife of the canon of the Anglican Cathedral to be buried Wednesday

Nichola Lynas, the wife of Church of Ireland Minister Normas Lynas, died suddenly at the age of 50.

The Bermuda resident was swimming at the couple's complex swimming pool in the Flatts area last Tuesday when she suffered a fatal heart attack.

Mrs. Lynas and her husband moved to the Island just before Christmas when Rev. Lynas accepted an appointment as Cannon at The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in Hamilton.

There was a funeral on Island for her this week. She will be interred at St. Malachy's Church in Hillsborough, Ireland next Wednesday.

According to Bishop of Bermuda Patrick White, Mrs. Lynas, was the beloved mother of two grown up children, Tristan and Adam — a barrister and a banker respectively.

She was also a vital member of both her church community abroad — and in Bermuda.

The Rt. Rev. White told The Royal Gazette: "She was really happy to be able to come and live in Bermuda and serve in the church in Bermuda.

"One of her sons called her a force of nature and a talented woman.

"She was a fellow of the Royal College of Music in London. She taught for most of her life. She taught schoolchildren music and drama.

"She was just a person who exceeded humour, vitality and warmth and she was looking forward to spending a good few years here in Bermuda."

Rev. Lynas plans to continue his post at The Cathedral. He will be leaving for Ireland this weekend and was unavailable for comment yesterday.
