A man who threatened to “stick” officers today admitted having a knife in public.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Robert Holdipp Jr, 24, was arrested after the mother of his child called police over a dispute with the defendant.

The woman told police when they arrived that the problem was over and she did not want to press charges.

But the officers discovered that Holdipp had outstanding warrants and tried to arrest him.

Holdipp, 24, of Paget, told the officers: “If you take me in, I’m going to stick you.”

The court heard Holdipp ignored orders to take his hands out of his jacket pockets, which led police to believe he may be armed.

The officers grabbed Holdipp’s arms and attempted to arrest him, but he pulled away and tried to escape.

Holdipp fell to the ground in the struggle and kicked at the officers until he was restrained.

Police later found an eight inch knife on the ground where Holdipp had been struggling.

The incident happened on April 3.

Holdipp admitted charges of violently resisting arrest and threatening officers earlier, but denied the knife offence until this morning.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report on Holdipp.

He was released on bail until June 4 for sentence.
