Shares of Butterfield Bank reached a 52-week high of $40 after edging up 50 cents, or 1.3 per cent, after 3,600 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

Three stocks dropped, with Ascendant Group losing 49 cents, or 4.9 per cent, to close at $9.91 after 2,200 shares were exchanged. Argus Group was down 13 cents, or 3.3 per cent, at $3.77 after 3,250 changed hands, and Somers Ltd dropped 25 cents, or 1.7 per cent, to $14.25 after 4,800 traded.

On the New York Stock Exchange, shares of Butterfield Bank were down one cent, or 0.02 per cent, at $40.56.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 13.5 points, or 0.59 per cent, at 2,306.75.

The BSX Insurance Index was down 10.51 points, or 0.55 per cent, at 1,908.04.
