Devwah Whaley rushed for 38 yards on only six carries in the Arkansas Razorbacks’ 50-43 overtime defeat by Texas A&M in Dallas on Saturday.

The Bermudian had the fewest amount of carries among running backs for Arkansas at AT&T Stadium, but his average of 6.3 yards per attempt led his team’s RBs.

True freshman Chase Hayden has 77 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown to lead the team, while senior David Williams, who started ahead of Whaley, had 68 yards and two scores on 11 attempts.

Whaley was involved in what Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema called “a little disagreement in the locker room” with wide receiver Brandon Martin last week, but said the incident was not relevant in his decision to start Williams against the Aggies.

“[Whaley] didn’t get a lot of practice time,” Bielema told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. “And no matter how good of a player, how long you own it, if you can’t practice, just don’t know how much you can get out there and play.

“We gave David the opportunity just because he had been there the whole time and felt better with the ball security and everything.”

The defeat puts more pressure on Bielema, with the Razorbacks now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

Arkansas play host to New Mexico State in a non-conference game on Saturday, with a 1pm kick-off, Bermuda time, at Donald W Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
