A Devonshire landscaper admitted driving while impaired after he lost track of how much he had to drink.

Jose Serodio, of South Road, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired.

Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess said Police were on patrol in Hamilton when they saw the 48-year-old drive a car through a red light on Front Street on November 28.

He then stopped the vehicle and drove in reverse back behind the line.

When the light turned green, Serodio turned illegally onto Burnaby Street and parked his car near the Hog Penny Restaurant.

Police then confronted Serodio, who was said to stumble out of the parked car.

Asked how much he had to drink, he said: “I lost count. I don't know how many I had.”

Serodio was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where an alco-analyser revealed he had 163 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, double the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

On Wednesday he pleaded guilty and apologised.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Serodio $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
