Bank ready for launch of new banking system
Bank of Bermuda employees are getting ready for their big bang ? the launch of the HSBC subsidiary?s new $30 million electronic banking system, which is die to take effect on Monday.
The new system will convert all of the Bank?s online banking services and introduce three new online banking services for every segment of the community including personal banking, small business and corporate.
?In Bermuda, like few other implementations around the world, we started off with a newly acquired bank that has built up its own traditions over hundred of years and this was a big challenge,? said Karl Uduman, Programme Director of HUB (HSBC Universal Banking System).
Mr. Udaman said he started to implement the project in March, 2004.
?This project has been labelled as the most complex of this type of conversion undertaken within the HSBC group, its certainly not the largest but certainly the most complex,? he said. ?We are switching over all the client channels all in one single weekend and we have to get it right.?
Andy Gent, Bank of Bermuda chief operating officer, said pensioners raised some concerns about pension payments and businesses have raised some concerns about payroll systems but the Bank was able to address those concerns.
Sean Lee, Bank of Bermuda manager of growth, said one of the advantages to the higher tier system to be introduced ? HSBC Net, is that it is designed to support companies such as ACE, XL, AIG more effectively than the current online banking system.
?Its a global system for global companies who can view their accounts wherever they may be within the HSBC group internationally,? Bank of Bermuda head of E-Business Maggie Bloom said.
?The new system will improve things for customers quite dramatically because customers will have access to a lot more services and customers will be able to make transactions in real time,? Ms Bloom said.
?They will be more control of their own banking as they can set up new accounts and its great for us because there will less chance of errors and interventions.?
On Monday, customers will need to register for the new service by going to www.bankofbermuda.com and using instructions sent to customers in September.
