A social worker found guilty of dishonesty has been given an absolute discharge in Magistrates’ Court.Kennette Robinson, a former acting director at the Department of Child and Family Services, was found guilty in May of dishonestly obtaining a Peoples’ Pharmacy gift certificate valued at $152.70.She brought a baby carrier back to the store that she had not actually purchased last June. Store video footage showed that it had come directly off the shelf.Defence lawyer Larry Mussenden yesterday offered four character references for Ms Robinson. Department of Child and Family Services director Alfred Maybury was prepared to speak in court on her behalf.Ms Robinson, 42, apologised to the court and told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “It was never my intention to deprive the pharmacy of any items.“I accept the decision of the court, I apologise to the court. I regret that this has happened. I have never been before the court for any offence.“I believe in helping people and doing the right thing. I ask that you take that into consideration and provide me with the opportunity to move on from here.”An absolute discharge means no punishment is imposed, and no criminal conviction is recorded against her.
