Roberts offers lost phone location service
Tech entrepreneur McCal Roberts is offering a new service that claims to be able to locate lost or stolen cell phones.Through his company Mac10 Soft, Mr Roberts is offering the service free to those who sign up during the month of January.Mr Roberts can only search for phones, utilising satellite technology, after he has been authorised to do so by the owner and the wireless services provider.In talks with relevant parties, Mr Roberts said his idea had been welcomed by government telecommunications officials as well as the three major wireless services providers, CellularOne, Digicel and M3 Wireless.“People are always losing their phones and the Island is crying out for this service,” Mr Roberts said.He hopes to be able to introduce an insurance-type agreement in conjunction with wireless services providers that will allow subscribers to use his service when they lose their cell phones.Mr Roberts, who is based in an office in the old Berkeley School on Berkeley Road, has a wide-ranging technology-based business, which also offers ‘how to create your own website’ tutorials.For more information, call McCal Roberts on 339-6297.
