June 1: Antonio Myers was charged with the murder of Kumi Harford. The 30-year-old was shot several times in his car in December 2009 on St Monica’s Road. He was the 14th person to be shot in Bermuda since a spate of gang-related shootings began in May 2009. Mr Meyers’ Supreme Court trial has yet to start.June 2: The Coco Reef Resort lease was made public. The hotel’s lease was increased from 70 to 120 years; the lease is currently under investigation by the Auditor General.June 4: The House of Assembly passed a new law allowing firearm suspects to be held without charge for up to 31 days for purposes of gathering evidence or obtaining forensic results but not for questioning.Investor Lawrence Doyle announced on that he planned to spend $100 million on building a new cottage colony on the former Lantana resort in Sandys.June 8: Bermuda’s media signed a Code of Practice, one of the first steps towards setting up an independent press council.June 10: Jamel Blakeney was arrested in New York for the attempted murders of Renee Kuchler and Shaki Minors outside Southside Cinema in November 2009. Mr Blakeney is the son of Government Minister Glenn Blakeney.June 11: Governor Sir Richard Gozney ruled out UK passports for Bermuda’s four Uighurs. The former Guantanamo Bay detainees are currently stateless and have been living in Bermuda since June 2009.June 12: Mother-of-two Katrina Flood became Bermuda’s seventh road death.June 14: Frederick Maybury was murdered at Woody’s Sports Bar. He was the sixth person shot dead in 2010. No one has been charged with his murder.June 16: Sixteen-year-old Sadune Raynor and 22-year-old Temiko Wilson were shot on Friswell’s Road in Devonshire.June 21: Alex Jackson’s maxi 100-foot sloop Speedboat won the Newport to Bermuda race.June 26: Three-year-old Stanwonde Swan drowned as the weekly powerboat races were underway at Kindley Field Road in St. George’s.June 30: Veteran PLP MP Walter Lister confirmed he would be stepping down at the next General Election. Mr Lister has been the Sandys South Centeral MP since 1976. After 30 years in the House he told The Royal Gazette he was making way for younger people aspiring to enter politics.
