The Bermuda Dietitians Association wants everyone in Bermuda to eat well. In celebration of Nutrition Month this month four members have submitted articles to help the public achieve this goal. This week, Body & Soul features advice from Royce-Ann James, clinical dietician at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Healthy snacking
Rushing out to the Palm Sunday walk this weekend? If you need a few snacks to take along try some of these fast nutritious options. They're great alternatives to potato chips, soda, chocolate or greasy high-fat fast food.
Suitable for the walk:
Raw nuts and raisins
Mini carrots
Real nut butter and whole grain bread
Real fruit and vegetable juice
Banana, apple, pear
Laughing Cow cheese and table crackers
Sugar-free Jell-O pudding snacks
Smart popcorn
Other fast snack options:
Low fat yoghurt
One slice of tomato with a little cheese sprinkled on top
Roasted red pepper and hummus
Diced, frozen watermelon or pineapple
Cottage cheese
Vegetable soup – freeze in individual serving containers
Chocolate fudgesicle – only 40 calories if you have chocolate craving
