Kendra Earls piece Solidarity will be on show this evening at the Common Ground Cafe.

A new exhibit featuring works by Kendra L. Earls opens at Common Ground Cafe this evening.Contemporary Mosaics and Paintings will showcase mosaic art and paintings by Ms Earls as well as mixed media work by her student, Lee Ann Cox.“As a mosaic artist and painter, for the first time I've decided to combine the two mediums in one exhibition,” Ms Earls said. “My mosaics reflect much of the style in my paintings.“I enjoy both art forms in that mosaics allow me to demonstrate my design concepts and painting is more of my expressing myself emotionally.”The exhibit runs through February 2.“The piece that [Lee Ann] is putting in is one that she did in a class that turned out really, really nice,” said Ms Earls. “It is a paint and charcoal mixed media on wood. It is a beautiful cityscape that was part of a project that they did and hers just turned out beautiful.”Ms Earls also designs mosaic installations around the Island.Photographs of some of that work will also be on hand during the opening.“In my big pieces your can see that you can do really neat installations on an accent wall, a backsplash or other small corner of the wall, and make it something really dramatic and make it a part of your architecture,” she added. The exhibit opens tonight at 5.30pm.

Kendra Earls will have some of her installation work, such as this ying and yang example available for viewing during the opening of her show at the COmmon Ground Cafe.
