Gospel singer will perform at Shine’s House of Music tomorrow and Saturday

Francine Brown nee Rollins is taking over Shine?s House of Music tomorrow and Saturday nights.

Bermudian gospel singer Francine Brown conquered the Apollo Theatre and will now perform on the local stage.She performed at the New York theatre in 2000, and won the Amateur Night prize on three consecutive occasions.Tomorrow and Saturday night she will perform at Shine’s House of Music.“I don’t think that I was totally surprised… I thought that I would at least come runner up or something,” she said of her Apollo experience.“As far as winning, I think that when you put your heart into things especially as a singer or entertainer, you get results.”Ms Brown is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music graduate. She writes her own music.“Most people that sing gospel started in the church, but I started singing a lot of reggae and secular music first before I started to get into gospel.“I didn’t know much about gospel artists, such as who was hot and who was not. I was in my mid-teens, around 15 or 16, when I really got into it. So it was the other way for me.”She plans to perform her own music as well as songs by Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams and Israel Houghton on Friday night.Ms Brown will perform tomorrow at 9pm and 11pm and on Saturday at 10pm and midnight.Tickets, $20, are available on the door.
