Imagine a Picasso, a Dali and a Rodin on display in a Bermuda gallery.Well these are only three of the treats in store for those attending the official opening of the new Desmond Fountain Gallery at the Elbow Beach Hotel. The exhibit will also include works by Bermuda artists Dan Dempster, Sharon Wilson, Charles Zuill, Eldon Trimingham III, Tracy Williams, Jason Harris, Otto Trott, Sheilagh Head, William Collieson, Kevin Morris, Henry Liam Ward and Desmond Fountain. Also on display are pieces by British artists Michael Jackson and David Hockney and French artists Olivier Martin and Bernard Poulin. The works were sourced from a variety of private collections.“We carry the works of important living contemporary artists and also on occasion we will have the works by famous artists either deceased or living,” said Mr Fountain.“David Hockney is a living artist and is probably one of the most important figures of the 20th century. Of course Dali, Rodin and Picasso are deceased, but equally very, very influential on the world art scene. So it is just showing that we have a broad spectrum of art for people to view and unlike a museum, you can actually buy some of these very, very desirable artworks.“It is quite exciting, because it is not often that you get a Picasso, a Dali, a David Hockney all exhibited at the same time as a Bernard Poulin and the range of Bermuda-based and associated artists.“So it is going to be quite a different exhibition and this is the way I want the gallery to function and people will find artists that are more based in Bermuda with an international following, but international people that you don’t expect to find in Bermuda.“It will give residents and visitors a chance to see what they might see in a gallery in New York, Paris and London.”Part proceeds from the sales will go towards the Coalition for the Protection of Children’s feeding programme. The gallery will open to the public tomorrow and Sunday, from 10am to 6pm and 2pm to 6pm respectively.
