Never too early to plan your summer

It’s only February, but chances are if you have a school-age child you’re already agonising over what they’ll be doing this summer. To make the choice a little easier Saltus is holding a special summer camp fair on Friday. The annual fair is hosted by the Saltus Association and showcases more than 25 summer camps from all over the Island.“The goal of the fair is to encourage parents to start thinking about summer now before camps and summer programmes fill up,” said Deborah Titterton Narraway, Saltus Association member. “This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the wide variety of summer camps and programmes offered in Bermuda. Summer camp is like a rite of passage for most children and finding a good fit will ensure your child has a wonderful experience this summer.”Many camps begin accepting applications in March, with several offering lower rates if booked early.“Ask the question on your mind: ‘Does the camp offer the variety of activities my child likes?’,” said Mrs Narraway. “Do they participate in the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s SunSmart Accreditation programme? Are their counsellors certified in [CPR]?”The free event will be held from 5pm to 7pm at Saltus Junior Hall in Pembroke, and is open to the public. Parking is available at Bulls Head. If you are a camp or programme that would like to have a resource table at the fair, e-mail pta[AT]saltus.bm.
