Drumming teacher Eddie Ming has produced four music books to aid his students in Cuba.Mr Ming, who runs the Eddie Ming Drum School and Rhythm Lab in St George’s, spends about four weeks every year in Cuba teaching at schools.“What inspired me to do the books is they asked me to write a case description of the lesson plan for all the schools I have taught in.“This year I will spend four weeks in July and two weeks in November and two weeks in December, back to back.”Mr Ming has been travelling to Cuba since 2008.In 2009 he took 28 Bermudian students and their parents, to a music camp there. He has become quite attached to the country and its rich musical culture. He admits his Spanish is “very weak” but fortunately many of the students in Cuba speak English. The books are also available in Bermuda.Mr Ming has been teaching drumming to local students for several years and has about 60 to 70 students at his drum school. In Cuba he teaches ten to 15 students at each school and in the space of four years has taught in all four levels, elementary, senior school, conservatory and university.
