The next CoH Summer Sunday event takes aim at young people

By Nadia Arandjelovic

The City of Hamilton are looking to attract a younger crowd with their latest Summer Sunday event series.

Contemporary artists from entertainment company Playlist Management will be taking to the stage — along with a host of other local entertainers including Prestige, Dem Biez and singer Olivia Hamilton.

The free event will kick off in Victoria Park on Sunday from 3pm until 8pm.

Thomas Lightbourne, the events and marketing coordinator, said people of all ages can expect a great time with quality entertainment, gifts and giveaways.

Power Girl Trina will be serving as MC and likes to engage the crowd and “get them included in the event”, he said.

Young singer Ms Hamilton is also one of the event highlights and will be performing some of Beyonce’s hits.

“If you are looking for something on the weekend it’s a great event to come to and has a good family atmosphere.”

Mr Lightbourne said the entertainment in the park series was typically known to attract an older audience, but this year they have seen a wide cross-section of people from children and teenagers, up to adults.

“We want to make it so it’s an event where anyone can come out,” he said.

“I am trying to change the demographics by gearing it more to young people and getting younger performers. And the way I see it just getting the youth and younger people involved makes sense because they will bring their friends and peers along as well.”

People are encouraged to bring their blankets and chairs and enjoy in the festivities. Food and merchandise vendors selling everything from toys to jewellery will also be on offer at the event.

He said people can follow ‘Corporation of Hamilton’ on Facebook for live updates on events coming up in the summer months.
