Dill’s Warriors hope to join NBA Development League
Terence Dill is hopeful of making the Buffalo Warriors the next team to be included in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Development League in the fall. With the side no longer slated to compete in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) for the upcoming 2013 season, the Warriors hierarchy are actively pursuing the opportunity to play at a higher level. The side had been slotted into the PBL where they were to rub shoulders with clubs nationwide after pulling out of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL), citing team issues as their chief reason for the withdrawal. The NBA D League was founded in 2001, and is the NBA’s official minor league, featuring 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA franchises. The area misses the former Buffalo Braves, and Dill is hopeful of bringing quality basketball to the area if they are approved to join the league. An international field will take to the court against Dill’s Buffalo Warriors in the coming months as they are set to hosts teams from across the globe.“It feels great to be in this situation, we have had issues in the past with various things but hopefully this works out for us and we can play in the D League,” said the Bermuda international.“We are trying to bring back the lost sport of professional basketball to Buffalo. People here miss the Braves and we are trying to give them the good feeling of a winning basketball team here again.”In the meantime, Dill is putting together a list of countries to venture to the Buffalo area to play the side at the Hamburg Casino Event Centre.Among the countries being touted are England, Germany and Ireland just to name a few, with a few teams from Bermuda a possibility as well.“We are bringing in international teams to come play us from Germany, Ireland, Ivory Coast, to England in Buffalo and even trying to get a Bermuda team up here for two games in May,” said Dill, who is also back on the hardwood after a short stint in a shirt and tie as a co-owner.“We decided to bring in international teams because we are pursuing the chance to be in the D League in the fall and figured that playing a higher level of competition would push our bid even higher and show them that we can compete. All the games will be played at the Hamburg Casino Event Centre out here as they are our sponsors.“It feels great to be back on the court again, I missed it so to be back out there is a joy. At the end of the season we are going to every place that came here to do a European tour.”
