Butterfield and Somers shares fall

Butterfield Bank was at the centre of trading on the Bermuda Stock Exchange today, as both its common shares and preference shares dropped.

The bank’s common shares fell one cent, or 0.5 percent, to close on $1.99, as 100,887 shares traded. The eight percent preference shares tumbled $19.85, or 1.7 percent, to close on $1,160, as 15 shares changed hands.

Somers Ltd, owner of Bermuda Commercial Bank, also fell, shedding 75 cents, or more than five percent, to close on $13.75 on the trading of 1,000 shares.

Ascendant Group Ltd remained unchanged on $6.15 as 200 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 9.2 points, or 0.66 percent, to close the day on 1,388.81. The BSX Insurance Index rose 8.56 points, or 0.6 percent, to 1,437.05.
