Portuguese fighters take on best of Bermuda

Perfect preparations: Bascome takes on Costa next month at the Faormont Southampton

Nikki Bascome and Andre Lambe’s preparations for their bouts on the “Bermuda v Portugal” fight card are going smoothly, their trainer Allan “Forty” Rego said yesterday.

Both boxers are presently at a training camp in Orlando, Florida, as they build towards the “Undefeated” fight night at the Fairmont Southampton next weekend.

The card includes five bouts pitting Bermudian and Portuguese boxers against each other.

“Nikki and Andre are doing exceptionally well in training camp over here in Florida,” Rego said. “They are focused more than ever before and I’ve noticed such an intensity in both fighters that it inspires me every day to push them further.”

Bascome and Lambe have been getting some quality sparring under their belts at the Kissimmee Boxing Gym in Orlando.

“The level of sparring partners over here is very high and affords both fighters the opportunity to enhance their skills to another level,” Rego said.

Bascome faces fellow undefeated fighter Fabio Costa in a six-round professional welterweight, while Lambe meets Jorge Guedes in an amateur welterweight bout.

Rego’s other boxers Tyler Christopher and Jaylon Roberts will also be in action.

Christopher takes on Jose Sousa, while Roberts goes toe-to-toe with Nuno Narciso Ribeiro Santos in two welterweight bouts.

The remaining amateur bout on the undercard will pit Controversy Gym’s Robert Somner against João Carlos Alves da Silva Azevedo in a middleweight contest.

“Bermuda get ready because this will be the fight of the century for Bermuda and these fighters are in it to win it,” Rego added.

The event also features bantam and junior skills boxing bouts, kick boxing and the Bermuda Combat Club Submission Grappling Middleweight Championship.

In the bantam and junior skills bouts, Josef Ferreria will face Otero Smith, while Zaire Williams takes on Quadre Emery.

The kick-boxing bouts will feature Krista Dyer against Ragan Hanna Beedy, with Quincy Robinson set to do battle with Sheldon Martel Thompson.

Bermuda Combat Club Submission Grappling Middleweight Championship features two contests pitting Donnie Matthew with Tekle Smith and Joshua Smith against Zavier Rawlins.
