Michael Parsons is confident his hands will do the talking as he attempts to land his first win as a professional boxer on Saturday night.

Parsons is set to do battle with Jamaican Gregory Miller in a catchweight event on the Epic Entertainment Fight Night Champion card at The Shed, in Dockyard, in just his second pro fight .

“I am still looking for my first win but I’m very confident that will come on Saturday,” Parsons told The Royal Gazette. “It’s all about doing what I have to do, listen to my corner and come away victorious.

“I am not going to go out there looking for the knockout but if it presents itself then I will take it. The win is definitely important and by any means necessary.

“I am excited to get back in the ring and showcase my talent and entertain the people that’s coming out to pay. Hopefully it’s a good night.”

Parsons’ opponent is a southpaw, which bodes well for the 43-year-old who boasts a flawless record against such fighters.

“When I was figthing in England I took on three southpaws and I am 3-0 against them, so it’s nothing that I haven’t seen before,” Parsons said.

“This time I am fighting at a different weight. We were supposed to make 154 but my opponent can’t make it. We asked to fight at a catchweight of 160, so that’s what we are fighting at.”

Despite the threat from the other side of the ring, Parsons is more focused on his attributes than the man in the opposite corner.

“I never look at my opponent,” he said. “I am not taking anything away from them and I don’t underestimate them. I just go in the ring and adjust to what they do

“Mainly I focus on what I do. I take what they do well away from them to make them do things they don’t really want to do. Their head may tell them to do it but they can’t because I am taking it away from them.

“I am just going in there to do the things that I have been doing all through camp. I have had good sparring time with Adrian Roach, Lovintz Tota and a lot of heavyweights that are at our gym [Controversy Gym], which has five individuals participating.

“I have been in shape for the last month or so. I have put in the work and it’s all about staying sharp now. It’s the mental part and it’s just the waiting game now.

“Obviously it’s fight week so it’s all about knuckling down and getting the last bit of fitness in. I am not focused too much on the fight because the fight is not here yet, so I try and put my mind somewhere else.”

Parsons suffered a unanimous points defeat to Daniel Roach in his professional debut at the Fairmont Southampton in January 2020 and has since felt frustrated after having a string of fights cancelled.

“The three opponents that I had lined up never showed because of visa issues or whatever,” Parsons said. “That became a little frustrating in the sense that I have put in the work and then my opponent does not show up.”

Saturday’s fight card will be headlined by the welterweight clash between Bermuda’s Nikki Bascome and Cody Kelley, while local professional Andre Lambe gets his shot at the American Boxing Federation welterweight title

Ringside seats can be purchased for $150 and include VIP entry, two free drink tokens and an Epic treat box. VIP tickets are available for $125, while general admission is $80.
