Andre Lambe is relishing facing higher-ranked Mexican Sergio García Herrera, despite his opponent warning the Bermudian that he is gunning for his American Boxing Organisation regional welterweight title.

The two are set to square off tomorrow in the headline bout at the Epic Entertainment Fight Night Champion at The Shed, Dockyard, in what promises to be an electrifying six-round contest.

Lambe, 28, has been yearning for such challenges, which have proven hard to come by since opponents are not eager to face him after checking out his flawless record.

He has won all his nine professional bouts, six of those by knockout.

García, 26, comes into the fight with seven wins, four of them by knockout while also suffering two defeats.

“Right now I’m ranked in the top 600 of the fighters in my division and Sergio is ranked in the top 200, so winning this fight will be tremendous for me because it will take my rank up,’’ said Lambe, who at the beginning of the year, defeated previously unbeaten and higher-ranked United States-born Mexican Crisanto Lucio, to claim his second ABO belt.

“I’ve been seeking out these type of fights before, but it’s just that a lot of the guys pull out.

“I’m just happy I’m finally getting an opportunity to fight another ranked fighter outside of when I fought Lucio. He was ranked pretty high and he was undefeated.

“That was the last time I really got to fight a ranked fighter and that took my ranking up pretty high.

“After that it’s been hard to get fights against guys that are either undefeated or ranked pretty high because they don’t want to take the fight.

“They would say yes, watch my tapes and then pull out of the fight.”

García’s camp, while not overconfident, are looking at nothing short of a knockout against Lambe, something the Bermudian has never suffered, having made his professional debut in 2020.

“My fighter doesn’t like to be presumptuous or talk a lot, but he will apply himself to the maximum to try and win by way of a knockout,” said García’s coach Benjamin Barragán Ponce.

Having defeated Bryan Springs in Cleveland, Texas, via a unanimous points decision in August, Lambe is now returning to fight on home soil for the first time since his third-round triumph over Filipino Ronniel Tabayag in May.

He went into fight carrying excess weight, 153 pounds instead of 147, but Lambe and his team, led by coach Varo Pelon Andrade, have done all they can to ensure that is not the case this time around.

“This is probably the best shape I’ve been in for a long time,’’ Lambe added.

“We’ve been changing some days with my camp, and changing a lot of things in the background, it’s been working out pretty good.

“I’m down on weight, I’ve had some troubles trying to find a routine before but we’ve got a great routine going now.

“We’ve increased my training tremendously.

“Before I even knew who I was facing, we had already increased my training.

“I’ve been training two times every single day, I can’t even bring to words how hard I’ve been preparing for this fight.

“After my last fight in Texas I didn’t take a break, I just kept training because I wasn’t too happy with my last two performances.

“We just kept together, kept the ball going and just trying to build on anything that I needed to work on.

“I’m not looking past this fight because it’s definitely an important one, but I’m trying to get myself ranked up so I start challenging for bigger opportunities and potentially get on some live pay-per-view events.”

Ponce declared García, who arrived on island on Tuesday, is ready to put on a show, while warning Lambe he is in for a tough evening.

“We always work hard to put up a good fight,’’ Ponce said. “He knows that Lambe is an undefeated boxer, that he is good at what he does, but he has never faced a truly Mexican-style boxer until now, and he will not know what we do.

“A good boxer is always ready. He is an active boxer who is always prepared for whatever comes.

“I can assure you that 
Lambe has never faced a boxer of his level.”

A total of ten fights are scheduled to take place tomorrow with a mixture of masters and amateur boxing as well as kickboxing.

In the curtain-raiser for the main bout, top amateur boxer Adrian Roach faces Luis Portillo.

Lambe and García are set to come face-to-face at the official weigh-in tonight.
