Bank teller stole $35,000 from client's account

A Capital G bank teller who admitted stealing $35,000 from a client’s account to buy a car will be sentenced next month.Mother-of-two Justina Wilson, 23, lost her job after making the unauthorised withdrawal in September. She pleaded guilty to theft on Friday at Magistrates’ Court and was bailed to reappear for sentencing on February 25 after completion of a social inquiry report.Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess said Wilson who has no previous convictions wrote a cheque from one client’s account for $35,000, which was made payable to another client with whom she was friendly. The friend deposited the cheque and withdrew a large amount of cash, with Wilson processing the transaction.“The activities were all recorded on the surveillance cameras,” said Ms Burgess. She said Wilson, now unemployed, used the money to buy a Honda CR-V, which has since been seized by police. “The $35,000 was returned back to the first client’s account,” she added.Ken Savoury, defending, requested the social inquiry report. “She has two young children,” he said. “She has not wasted the court’s time.”A spokeswoman for the bank said: “Capital G does not comment on legal matters before the court.”
