Man admits he robbed cashier at Card cove

A man admitted robbing an elderly cashier in a city store when he appeared at Supreme Court yesterday.Rasool Ebbin, 27, of Southampton targeted Estelle Dixon, 85, at the Card Cove shop on Queen Street at 9.30am on Saturday, February 27, 2010.He pleaded guilty to robbery but denied being armed with a knife, saying he had an armed accomplice in the crime.According to a Police report at the time: “An unknown man entered the store and approached the cashier. The suspect brandished a bladed article before taking a quantity of money from the cash register and making good his escape on Queen Street.”There was a 76-year-old female customer in the store at the time, but neither she nor Ms Dixon were injured. A total of $200 was stolen from the cash register.Yesterday, Ebbin pleaded guilty to robbery on the day his trial was due to begin, saying he discussed committing the robbery with an accomplice who he knew had a knife.He said it was the other man who entered the store while he was outside on the street.Ebbin was remanded into custody and must return to court on March 1 when a date for his sentence will be fixed.Ms Dixon, now 86, was said by a colleague at the store to be too upset to speak about the crime yesterday. She’s worked at Card Cove for around 40 years.
