Motorist banned from driving for refusing breath test

A 23-year-old auditor was banned from the road after she admitted refusing to submit to a breath test.Jennifer Beech, of Devonshire, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court, saying she was sorry for the offence.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan said police in an unmarked vehicle noticed Beech’s car nearly collide with a wall near Trinity Church Road around 2.30am on April 10.The officer followed the vehicle and, noticing it continued to swerve across the road, contacted another officer in a marked car.The second officer pulled Beech over on Kindley Field Road and asked her if she had been drinking, to which she responded: “Yes, I was drinking liquor around midnight.”The officer arrested Beech on suspicion of impaired driving and took her to Southside Police Station. When officers requested a breath sample Beech refused.In Magistrates’ Court Beech pleaded guilty to refusing the test, saying: “I’m really sorry and realise the gravity of the offence.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Beech $1,000 and banned her from driving all vehicles for one year.
