Kevin Warner is taken from Supreme Court yesterday where he is on trial for the murder of Dekimo Martin.

A prosecutor told a court that witnesses heard three gun shots before finding the body of 24-year-old Dekimo “Purple” Martin on stairs outside his home.Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney yesterday opened up the Supreme Court trial of Kevin Warner, 21, accused of the premeditated murder of Mr Martin, who was at his home on Peacock Crescent, in Somerset, when he was gunned down on May 28 last year. The defendant, from Warwick Park Road in Warwick, is also charged with carrying a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, namely the premeditated murder of Mr Martin, on the same date.Represented by defence lawyers Kim Hollis QC and Elizabeth Christopher, Mr Warner has pleaded not guilty to both counts.Mr Mahoney told the jury: “The allegations are that the accused was a frequent visitor to 8 Peacock Crescent in Sandys to the Lewis family where he was a close friend to Kellan Lewis and his sister.“In fact you will hear in evidence he was almost like a part of the family. Dekimo Martin is the cousin of Kellan Lewis.”The court heard at the time of the incident Mr Lewis lived downstairs of the property, while Mr Martin was staying upstairs after moving in a week earlier.Around 2pm on Thursday, May 27, Mr Warner visited the Lewis family home and asked to speak with Mr Lewis’ sister Chelsea. The defendant had been in communication with the victim throughout that day, including around 6.30pm when Mr Martin had borrowed his white Suzuki motorcycle.Later that night the two men were outside the Somerset home talking for a while with Mr Martin’s two uncles. One of the uncles, Robin Lewis, went inside around 1am on Friday morning and laid down on the couch to get some sleep. He heard three gun shots coming from the direction of where both Mr Martin and Mr Warner were sitting, according to Mr Mahoney. The relative went outside and found Mr Martin laying upside down at the top of the stairs with his head hanging down. The victim’s sister Danielle rushed outside and saw someone, matching the description of Mr Warner, running away from the scene, the court heard.Detective Constable Peter Thompson, who gave evidence in the trial yesterday, said he found three bullet casings on the property, as well as one intact bullet head.He showed the court pictures of a blood soaked undervest, T-shirt and tan jacket, all belonging to Mr Martin.Det Con Thompson said he was called back to the crime scene later that day to examine a driver’s licence belonging to Mr Warner found nearby where the shooting took place. The case continues this morning before Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves.
