Unhappy anniversary

A Massachusetts man spent his anniversary in court yesterday after he was caught with cannabis in his cruise ship cabin.John McDonough, 45, pleaded guilty to possessing 8g of cannabis on October 2 in Sandys.He was onboard the Norwegian Dawn at the time.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan told Magistrates’ Court that Customs officers were searching the ship with a K9 unit at 11.36am that day, when the dog indicated McDonough’s room.McDonough, who was in the area, told officers: “I know what you are looking for.”He then let the officers into the cabin and brought them to the cabin safe containing the drugs.McDonough said: “I wanted to have a good time so I brought a little bit of marijuana and it didn’t work out well.“When I saw [the Customs officers] stop at my door, I went back. I said, ‘Come in and I will give it to you’. I did my best to cooperate and to be polite.“My wife is very upset. We were married three years ago today and look where I am.”Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined McDonough $2,000. He warned: “Just remember if you come to Bermuda and want to have a good time, it won’t be with a drug.”
