Cruise passenger fined for cannabis, ecstasy

A cruise ship passenger was hit with a $1600 fine in Magistrates’ Court for possessing cannabis and ecstasy on board the Norweigan Dawn.American Trevis Gembarowski was arrested on Sunday after Customs officers discovered the drugs in a duffel bag in his cabin.The drugs were analysed and found to be 7.16 grams of cannabis and .88 grams of ecstasy.When asked if he had anything to say in court on Tuesday Gembarowski replied: “I just want to apologise to your Country. I accept full responsibility. It was for my personal use. The ship leaves tonight and I’m hoping to be on it, I’m just trying to get back to my job and I don’t want to get stranded here.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said: “You won’t be stranded here we have a place to keep you safe and sound.”He issued a fine of $800 for each offence or 30 days in prison if Gembarowski fails to pay.The defendant told Mr Warner: “I have people working on getting the money as we speak.”
