The defendants deny using an imitation firearm and a charge of aggravated burglaryat the home of Rhonda Wilkinson.Mr Warner, of Vesey Street, Devonshire, residentsaid he was visiting his godfather, Dwayne Brangman, at his Cedarpark home on the night in question. He was the fifth of nine witnesses scheduled to to testify for the Crown. He told Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess that he left his godfather’s apartment with others, who were at the home that evening, to get a ride home. They ended up in the parking lot of Link Bermuda near Belvin’s Grocery on Middle Road, in Devonshire. The witness testified that he heard “Shayne ask if anybody had gloves” and that he later saw the handle of what he believed to be a gun and a machete.Unlike previous witnesses who said the blade was “silver and looked new with a red and black handle”, Mr Warner said the machete he saw looked rusty with an orange and black handle. He went on to say the men in the car were dressed in dark clothing with hoodies, although they did not have the hoods on their heads while in the car.In the parking lot he said one of the men started cutting up “what looked like a black rag to put over their faces”.“I didn’t know why or what they were doing that for,” said Mr Warner who added that he decided to walk home at that point. He was the first witness to testify after a full day of legal arguments on Wednesday in the absence of the jury. The trial continues at 9.30am on before Puisne Judge Charles- Etta Simmons for cross examination by the defence. The case was adjourned for the day yesterday due to an absent jury member who was ill.
