Waitress was almost three times the drink-drive limit
A mother caught driving at almost three times the legal alcohol limit told police “I just want to go home to my son — I will ride slowly”.
Amanda DeSilva, a 21-year-old waitress from Smith’s, was caught at 2.45am on New Year’s Day.
According to prosecutor Carrington Mahoney, officers watched her almost collide with a sidewalk as she rode her motorcycle up Queen Street in Hamilton.
She was then spotted driving erratically and swerving as she continued towards the Church Street junction, and had difficulty stopping when they pulled her over on Par La Ville Road.
DeSilva told officers she had just finished work, according to the prosecutor, and admitted she had had “three or four” drinks.
When she was arrested, she made the plea about getting home to her child.
A test showed she had 203 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood when the legal limit is 80 milligrams.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined her $800, which she must pay by February 8 or face a month in jail. He also banned her from driving for a year.
