Four men plead guilty to ‘brutal’ attack

Four men have admitted their part in a robbery and beating that left a 33-year-old man with a fractured skull, and his children traumatised.Judah Roberts, 18, of Pembroke, admitted intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm on Kevin Abrahams, on August 4, 2012.Sergio Robinson-Woolridge, 22, of Pembroke, along with 18-year-olds Kyle Daniels Smith from Warwick and Sanchea Douglas, of Pembroke, also pleaded guilty to robbing Mr Abrahams of money and other items on that same date.A Jamaican national living in Pembroke, Mr Abrahams had been employed as a construction worker at the time of the attack.He was set upon and robbed as he walked with his children on Rambling Lane, Pembroke.The accused men had been about to stand trial in the Supreme Court for the attack. However, Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons told the jury that during deliberations between counsel, the four presented pleas that were accepted by the Crown.Mrs Justice Simmons then dismissed the jurors, while the four were remanded into custody.According to Crown counsel Susan Mulligan, their sentencing date will be set at the September 3 arraignments.A fifth person who admitted taking part in the robbery has already been sentenced separately.According to the victim impact statement heard in that case, the group attack took place in full view of the victim’s two young sons, who subsequently had to be sent to live abroad.The victim’s wife was left with anxiety attacks and lack of sleep, and was left “learning to deal with the different person this has made me”, the statement added.Mr Abrahams had to receive lengthy speech therapy after returning from treatment abroad for his severe head injury.Calling the robbery “callous, cold and brutal”, he wrote: “What I have experienced in this attack I would not wish on my worst enemy.”
