A Bailey’s Bay man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter following the fatal stabbing of Verneil Richardson at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club in June.Adam Leroy King, 34, denied a charge of murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter when he appeared in Supreme Court yesterday. Mr Richardson, 21, an electrician, was at a party at the club when he was stabbed during an altercation in the early hours of June 26. He was treated at the scene for puncture wounds, but died from his injuries.King turned himself in to police later that day and was subsequently arrested.King, who has been in custody since his arrest, only spoke to enter a plea during yesterday morning’s arraignment session.Puisne Judge Charlesetta Simmons ordered King to be remanded in custody until sentencing on September 20. King was represented by lawyer Craig Attridge. The killing sparked outrage among the community, with area MP Derrick Burgess saying he was “deeply saddened and hurt by the news”.“In a community as small as this one, the loss of any person in this horrific manner cannot be tolerated,” Mr Burgess said at the time.“We encourage witnesses or anyone who can provide details leading to the capture and conviction of the person who committed this heinous act to speak out and assist the Bermuda Police Service in their investigation.”Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley added: “Our community has had relative calm for a number of months and while the family goes through this grieving period I think we have to get out of the way and let the authorities do what they have to do to try to get some closure on this case.”Last night Mr Richardson’s family could not be contacted to give their reaction to the development.
