Jilted boyfriend threatened to kill ex
A man who texted a series of murder threats to his ex-girlfriend avoided trial by switching to a guilty plea after the jury was sworn in.
Geontai Minors, 22, told his estranged partner Andrea Warren that he would do “something f***ed up” before making the threats.
He had maintained his innocence at earlier court appearances but yesterday admitted to threatening murder — a felony.
The court heard from Crown counsel Maria Sofianos that the two had been in a relationship for about four years before splitting up in May of 2012.
Minors was “none too pleased and wanted to get back together”, the Crown told the jury, sending her repeated texts attempting to get back in her favour.
However, around 2pm on November 21, 2012, Ms Warren received a text that finished: “I am going to do something f***ed up to you soon.”
A subsequent text included the threat to use a “piece” on “your loved one”, adding: “You just started a war.”
“Thanks for ruining my wonderful day,” the text continued, followed by, “Don’t worry because girls get shot too nowadays, so watch out because you are a dead man.”
A later text included “Only God forgives and you’re going to need it.”
Shortly before 3pm a fifth text warned her “What goes around comes around ... your ass is fired.”
It concluded: “Ho ho ho, merry f***ness.”
At that point, the complainant took her phone to the Hamilton Police Station and reported the matter. Police extracted the messages from her phone.
Officers were on the lookout for Minors, originally of Cove Valley Road in St George’s, but it took months before he was apprehended.
According to the prosecutor, Minors stayed at different locations.
He was arrested in February, 2013.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves ordered a social and substance abuse report on Minors and returned him to custody pending sentencing.
