Man denies punching and kicking a woman

A Sandys man has denied charges of attacking a woman outside of her home.

Wayman Cariah, 47, pleaded not guilty this morning to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to Crystal Burrows in an incident on February 9.

The Crown alleges that on the evening of the attack, Mr Cariah punched the complainant in the face and, after she fell to the ground, kicked her repeatedly, causing multiple bruises and a broken nose.

Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe released Mr Cariah on $5,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that he have no contact with Ms Burrows and wear an electronic monitoring device when one is available.

The matter is expected to return to the court in May for a trial.

Also appearing during this morning’s session of Plea Court was 19-year-old Rayjuan Raynor, from Pembroke, who denied charges of using threatening words to a police officer on February 17.

During the incident, Mr Raynor allegedly told the officer: “You should come to Middle Town. I will shoot you in the head. I’m a bad man.”

Mr Wolffe released Mr Raynor on $1,000 bail with a like surety, ordering that he return to the courts on May 1 for trial.

Travis Lowe, 22, from Southampton, meanwhile, admitted speeding at 87km/h and failing to stop for police, but denied taking a vehicle without consent and other traffic offences.

The court heard the speeding and failing to stop charges related to an incident that took place on January 22 on Harbour Road, Warwick.

The allegation of taking a motorcycle without consent related to a Honda Scoopy, which was reportedly taken on October 16, 2013. Mr Lowe is already awaiting trial for two other charges of taking motorcycles without consent. However, during this morning’s appearance he stated that he had paperwork that would show he owned all three of the vehicles.

He was fined $500 for speeding and $300 for failing to stop for Police, while the other matters were set to be mentioned next week so that Mr Lowe can produce the papers proving ownership of the motorcycles.
