Woman denies murdering teenager

A Paget woman pleaded not guilty this morning to the murder of a 16-year-old student.

Kiahna Trott-Edwards, 31, was charged in the Supreme Court with murdering Shijuan Mungal on September 8 last year in Warwick.

The teenager was allegedly struck with a wooden baseball bat in the Ord Road area.

Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves set a trial date in August for the matter, releasing Ms Trott Edwards on bail until then.

Also appearing during this morning’s arraignments session was 23-year-old Princeton Shantoine Burrows, who denied several charges connected to a shooting outside of Somerset Cricket Club on November 11 last year.

Mr Burrows pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully shooting Gladstone Wade, Denzell Crockwell, Lorenzo Dill and Kirt Brown Jr with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He also denied possessing a firearm and five rounds of ammunition on that same date.

The matter was adjourned until next month, when it will return to Supreme Court to be mentioned.

Stanley Davis, 48, meanwhile, pleaded guilty to two counts of prowling and one count of burglary, relating to incidents late last year.

Davis admitted prowling around a home on Laffan Street on December 4, 2014, breaking into a home on Cemetery Road two days later, stealing $450 in cash, and prowling outside a home on Vaucrosson Crescent on December 10.

However, he denied a second burglary charge, relating to an incident on November 12, 2014, in which he allegedly broke into a Rockland Lane home and caused actual bodily harm to a resident.

Davis will return to the courts this week for the matters to be mentioned.
