A Southampton man this morning admitted punching a man in the face after a dispute over a banana peel.

Eardley Simons, 48, pleaded guilty to a single count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The court heard that on the morning of August 7, police received a report of an assault at Webb’s Body and Paint Shop in the Well Bottom area of Warwick. When they arrived, they saw the complainant with blood on his face and dripping onto his shirt and glasses.

Prosecutor Nicole Smith said the complainant told officers that the previous day he had disposed of a banana peel in a trash bin, but Simons had removed it and thrown it into the street.

The complainant later returned the peel to the trash, but Simons again removed it, placing it in the pocket of a pair of pants belonging to the complainant.

Shortly after arriving at the shop on the morning of August 7, he said Simons attack him punching him in the left side of his face and saying: “I’m tired of you.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report on Simons, releasing him on $3,000 bail until January, when he is to be sentenced.
