A former deputy mayor of Hamilton and his two sons were yesterday accused of assaulting One Bermuda Alliance senator Andrew Simons and damaging his car.

Shoe shop owner Courtland Boyle Sr appeared at Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he denied unlawfully assaulting Mr Simons and wilfully and unlawfully damaging the wing mirror of Mr Simons’s car on August 3 last year.

Co-defendants Courtland Boyle Jr and Tanner Boyle did not appear as they were off the island.

The hearing was adjourned until April 18.

Mr Boyle Sr, who served as an elected councillor and alderman on the Corporation of Hamilton between 2003 and 2009, was released on $2,000 bail.

He was also ordered to have no contact with Mr Simons in the meantime.
