A driver who fell asleep at the wheel and later found to have been more than three times the legal alcohol limit was banned from the roads and fined yesterday.Jermaine Davis, 48, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to drink-driving and driving with illegal window tints.The court heard that police were alerted by a motorist who saw a car swerve in and out of their lane on Middle Road in Smiths.The motorist followed the car as it continued to swerve across the road and just miss hitting the sidewalk and oncoming traffic.The car later stopped across the centre line near Bride Hill in Smiths — blocking traffic in both lanes.The motorist who trailed the car found Davis asleep at the wheel.She was unable to wake him and moved him to the passenger’s seat of his car before she drove the car to a nearby liquor store.Police arrived at the scene and attempted to interview Davis, but he was incoherent.Davis was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken to Hamilton Police Station for a breath test.The test showed that Davis had 230.5 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.The incident happened on December 7 last year.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Davis, from Smith’s, a total of $1,300 and banned him from the roads for 18 months.He ordered him to pay the fine by March 2.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
