Drink-driver banned for 18 months
A 28-year-old Sandys man was almost twice over the legal drink-driving limit when he was involved in an accident, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.
Nicole Smith, for the Crown, told Magistrate Craig Attridge that at about 3.45am on June 16, police and emergency services attended a single-vehicle crash near Salt Kettle Road in Paget.
Renato Blanza Jr, who was involved in the crash, declined medical attention on the scene and when asked by police, admitted to drinking two beers before getting on his bike, the court heard.
Mr Blanza was taken to Hamilton Police Station where a breathalyser test revealed 156.2mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml.
Mr Attridge disqualified Blanza, who pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit, from driving all vehicles for 18 months and fined him $1,200.
