A 59-year-old man who was ordered to pay a $500 fine two weeks ago had his sentence changed in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Anthron Dill, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court two weeks ago to owning a home-made pipe which was found to have trace amounts of crack cocaine. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered him to pay the fine.

Dill appeared in court yesterday alongside a court services staff member, who told senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson that Dill is on probation for a separate matter which is scheduled to end in December.

The representative added that Dill cannot pay the fine and was not suitable for community service owing to his physical condition. She suggested that Ms Anderson extend his probation order for another few months.

Instead of the fine, Ms Anderson sentenced Dill to six months’ probation to start in January next year.
