Senior must pay thousands in parking fines by end of June

Magistrates' Court

A senior was given until the end of June to pay more than $3,000 in parking fines.

Suzette Gowrie, 76, told magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that she could pay $3,000 of the total when she appeared in court this week.

The woman from Devonshire pleaded guilty to a slew of parking violations last December, but claimed to suffer from a medical condition that makes it hard to walk more than two blocks.

After failing to provide the court with a signed doctor’s note verifying the condition, she was ordered to start paying the fines in February.

Mr Tokunbo ordered the woman to pay $3,000 today and gave her until June 30 to pay the balance.
